One of the most ambitious rulers in Chinese history was Qin Shi Huang – the very first emperor who unified China. His tomb, which lies within the Lintong District is famous for being guarded by the Terracotta Army, sculptures that are said to protect him in the afterlife. Perhaps it is these ancient guards that steer the modern archeologist away from these sacred grounds… or maybe, there’s something even more deadly inside…
Ancient Chinese historian Sima Qian wrote about the emperor’s tomb and how both intricate and deadly booby traps were left inside. ‘Craftsmen were ordered to make crossbows and arrows primed to shoot at anyone who enters the tomb. Mercury was used to simulate the hundred rivers, the Yangtze and Yellow River, and the great sea, and set to flow mechanically.’

Some studies also indicate there is a higher concentration of mercury around the tomb, perhaps lending some validation to the chilling account.

The late mediaeval and early modern periods were marked by a widespread fear of witchcraft and the subsequent persecution of individuals, primarily women, who were accused of being not only ‘witches’, but those who went as far as to copulate with the devil himself. The ”Malleus Maleficarum” played a significant role in promoting and legitimising such persecution. After being spearheaded by infamous inquisitors Heinrich Kramer and Jacob Sprenger, the text, often referred to as the ”Hammer of Witches,” was used as a manual for witch-hunters, providing them with instructions on identifying, interrogating, and punishing witches in the 15th century.

Much of what we’ve seen here in the apocryphal Book of Jasher does not appear in the traditional bible, or at least, not in so many words. Here in chapter three of Jasher, the focus shifts onto one of the more elusive biblical characters in Enoch, who we know from the bible was a descendant of Adam and one who was taken from the earth by God in a less traditional manner. Indeed, Enoch’s role in the biblical Genesis is extremely minimal and for the most part, his contribution to the narrative is easily overlooked, for it is really confined to only a few lines.

The Egyptian Creation Myth

In the beginning, only a boundless expanse of water known as Nun existed. Within this watery abyss, Atum, the self-created god, arose. Atum embodied both male and female aspects, and through his divine will, he birthed himself from the waters. With a clap of his hands, the first winds stirred, bringing life to the cosmic void.

The Greek Creation Myth

The God’s of Greek mythology are perhaps the most iconic of all. This is how they came to be.

From the primal void of Chaos emerged Gaia, the Earth, and Eros, the force of love and desire. Gaia, fertile and infinite, birthed Uranus, the star-studded sky, to be her equal and mate. Together, they sowed the seeds of creation.
