PubXtv: What Happened If You Cheated During The Ancient Olympic Games? #shorts
Ancient Greek geographer Pausanias tells us in his book ‘Descriptions of Greece’, that athletes, their family and their trainers would swear oaths upon slices of boar flesh that they would not do anything that would illegally affect the state of the Olympic Games. Put simply, they promised not to cheat. But cheating did happen, as Pausanias speaks of accounts of athletes bribing officials, physically harming their competition or even cursing each other.
