The Epic of Gilgamesh tells story of the ancient odyssey of a legendary king. Originally written in Akkadian on 12 incomplete tablets, the story is full of twist and surprises that often pit men against beasts, monsters and even the gods themselves.

Found in the 19th century the Turkish Assyriologist Hormuzd Rassam at Nineveh in the library of the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal, the tablets were a wonder then and they’re a wonder now. With that, it’s my pleasure to bring you a brand new series starting in August where I’ll be retelling the story of Gilgamesh and Enkidu and explaining everything that transpires.

Having beaten their brother, thrown him down a well and then sold him into slavery to the Ishmaelites, the brothers of Joseph go about their lives as if nothing had happened. The next chapter of Genesis takes place in the life of Judah and you might remember that it was Judah who had convinced his brothers not to kill Joseph, but to instead sell him to the Ishmaelites in the first place.
